Wet and cold weather didn't stop a handful of kite enthusiasts from celebrating Chico’s kite day.

The annual event usually sees dozens of people flying kites in Chico Community Park but due to the rain, attendance was down.

Kite enthusiast Nevan O’Connor said the rain made the day more fun.

“Why are you out here in the rain getting all wet flying kites, because it’s fun in the rain,” he said. “What makes it fun in the rain, just getting sopping wet.”

Kite day has been put on by the Chico Area Recreational Department for the past 31 years and is held to help celebrate the first day of spring.

This year, the event was sponsored by local toy store Bird in Hand.
