ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) - The Oakland Raiders have signed troubled pass rusher Aldon Smith to a contract.
Smith was released last month by the San Francisco 49ers a day after his fifth legal run-in since being drafted in 2011. Smith was arrested on Aug. 6 on accusations of drunken driving, hit and run and vandalism in Santa Clara.
Smith was suspended for nine games last season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse and personal-conduct policies. The league says he is currently eligible to play despite his latest arrest. But the NFL is still looking into that matter.
