TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - An auction on eBay allows the public to purchase the right to name a new species of moth.
The Western National Parks Association is auctioning off the naming rights to the inch-long moth that was discovered eight years ago at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico.
The man who discovered it, Eric H. Metzler, wanted to give back to the WNPA by allowing it to take the proceeds of the auction.
The WNPA says this is a unique opportunity to have a brand new species of animal named after you or a loved one.
Last year, Nova Southeastern University auctioned the rights to name a newly discovered sea lily. The university raised $6,000 for research.
