A Redding church opened their doors to collect donations for the fifth annual Project Homeless CONNECT.

The First Christian Church held a drive-thru collection of personal hygiene items, which they will be passing out at the event.

"This is a part of our social justice ministry. We need to change systems and that's important as people of faith. We also need to help those people who have fallen through the cracks, and this is a way that we spread God's love and witness to our faith," said Pastor David Van Heyningen.

Project Homeless CONNECT will take place Tuesday, June 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Redding Civic Auditorium.

Everyone is welcome to attend and be connected with a variety of services, including medical exams, haircuts, assistance with IDs, and a hot meal.
