CLEVELAND (AP) - Police say an orange safety indicator had been removed on a replica gun a 12-year-old boy Cleveland boy pulled from his waistband before being shot and killed by police.

Officers had gone to a playground Saturday after getting a 911 call that someone was waving a "probably fake" gun.

Police say Tamir Rice grabbed the fake gun after being told to raise his hands. That's when officers fired. Tamir died Sunday.

The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while there's an investigation.
