SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - State prison officials say an inmate missing from a minimum security fire camp is believed to have escaped in a pickup truck assigned to the facility.

They said Thursday that 56-year-old John Collard left the Ben Lomond Conservation Camp on Tuesday in a white 2006 Ford F250 four-door pickup with California license plate number 1169407.

The camp is located in the mountains about 16 miles north of Santa Cruz.

Collard was sentenced to prison last year from Monterey County on charges of making a criminal threat, resisting an officer and possession of a firearm.

Corrections Department spokesman Bill Sessa says Collard wasn't considered particularly dangerous until he went missing.

They now say it appears to be a planned escape and the truck could be disguised with magnetic business signs.
