A not guilty plea was entered Tuesday in a Tehama County courtroom on behalf of former Chico State student Tyler Burrone, charged with vehicular manslaughter.
Burrone's defense attorney, Rolland Papendick, entered the not guilty plea as Burrone looked on and the judge scheduled a pretrial conference for December 15.
Burrone was arrested in April of this year for allegedly texting and driving when his truck, towing a horse trailer slammed into a Nissan driven by 31-year-old Katie Ramsey of Gerber in June 2013. The impact from Burrone's truck pushed Ramsey's Nissan into the path of a big rig, her 5-year-old son Gunner was killed in the crash.
During a preliminary hearing in August the lead investigating officer took the stand, saying that he found no marks indicating Burrone had applied his brakes before the crash.
During the hearing prosecutors went over through phone recored to show that Burrone had been talking on the phone and texting leading up to the accident.
