Chico is fresh off an 8-3 campaign in which they advanced all the way the Northern Section Division-2 semi-finals before falling to crosstown rival Pleasant Valley.

It's no secret the Panthers have lost a lot of offensive talent, including graduated star quarterback Clayton Welch. Receivers Miles Fishback, Shawn Ray and Hunter Mootz have also wrapped up high school.

One person who is returning is incoming senior running back Cameron Alfaro. He accounted for 1,150 total yards from scrimmage last season and has a chance to be even better this year.

Also back are seven starters from the defensive side of the ball, including leading tackler Bailey Fritter.

They've got some experience which leads head coach Jason Alvistur to believe they're capable of making another deep run.

"We are very optimistic in our ability to compete and in our ability to progress and to grow. I think we have enough talent to win more games than we lose and I'm ready to have some fun doing it," said Alvistur.

"Our camaraderie is there and we're looking to do a lot of big things this year. We've got a lot of things going for our offense and defense, so expect a lot of big plays," said Alfaro.
