Preliminary cost of Chaparral Drive incident released

The unified command that worked the Chaparral Drive incident after 64-year-old D Ray East blew his hand off while trying to make rocket fuel in his home February 6th has announced the preliminary cost of the incident to the county was $171,200.

The Sheriff’s Office spent $72,000 on overtime and holiday overtime pay for employees. Public Works spent $35,000 and Environmental Health spent $21,100. In addition Shasta County Fire/Cal-Fire spent $15,500.
