More than 1300 Redding Electric Utility customers were left without power Thursday afternoon when lighting struck two substations.

REU spokesperson Pat Keener says lightning struck the Walden and Moore substations around 3 p.m.

The initial strike knocked out power to approximately 1300 customers, but according to Keener service had been restored to all but 200 by 5 p.m.

Service to the remaining 200 customers is expected to be restored by 6 p.m.
