Power finally restored to Downtown Chico businesses

PG&E didn't get the power back on to 45 Downtown Chico businesses until nearly 24 hours after it was shut off, because of an underground vault fire.
The vault on Third Street between Salem and Broadway was de-energized at about 4:00 p.m. Friday after people heard an explosion and saw smoke pouring out ... and the manhole cover was askew.
It's the second time this week there's been an underground problem on the same street ... The last time is was in a different vault, and was blamed on a failed cable that caught fire.
John Thomson, the owner of "Jon and Bon's Yogurt Shoppe" ... says he's lost thousands of dollars in lost business, and in product he had to throw away . And that's just from the latest incident.
He also suffered losses from Tuesday's incident.
There are two other restaurants in the same building.
Thomson's insurance provider said he's not covered, because the problem occurred off-site. So he's hoping PG&E will step up to set things right.
