In about 24 hours, the pride of Paradise, 20-year-old Jason Powell, will take to the cage for the biggest MMA fight of his young career.
Powell will make his professional debut on the undercard of the Bellator 115, Friday night, at the Reno Event Center.
The Paradise High grad, who won a Northern Section Division I wrestling title, will take on Sinjen Smith, who hails from Sparks, Nevada.
The bout will be streamed live on Spike.com, with the possibility that it will be aired later on Spike TV.
Powell was 5-0 as a amateur, winning 3 championship belts, and he says he's excited to make his pro debut for Bellator, one of the biggest MMA promotional companies in the world.
"It's one of the biggest shows in the world next to the UFC. For me to make my professional debut there is pretty amazing, and it's just a blessing. I can't believe I'm already here, I thought it was going to take me awhile. I'm just looking to make this area proud. It's very exciting because Bellator is a show I've watched at home for years, you know, being a fan, so to actually be on it and be on a Bellator mat in front of a big crowd is just going to be crazy, you know all these cameras and lights, so it's very exciting," said Powell.
