Potential BART Strike Threatens to Cripple Commute

Negotiators returned to the bargaining table this afternoon in an effort to avert another Bay Area transit strike.
BART and two of its largest unions are at odds over contract talks … which could lead to a second strike in three months.
BART trains were still running today after the unions and management agreed to extend labor talks past last the midnight Monday deadline.
Federal mediator George Cohen says there has been “some progress” in the intense negotiations.
Persistent sticking points in the 6-month-old talks remain salaries and workers' contributions to their health and pension plans. ###
