Four people are in police custody following a high speed chase that stretched from Anderson to Redding. It all started Monday with a report of a stolen Pontiac Grand Prix in the parking lot of the Anderson Walmart. The driver refused to stop and sped off north on Deschutes Road to Highway 299. The wild pursuit reached speed in excess of 100 miles per hour. During the pursuit the suspects threw stolen merchandise out of the car and at one point shots were fired from a flare gun. It has not yet been determined if any shots were fired from a firearm.
The dangerous car chase ended when the car lost control and slid on Highway 299 just east of the Churn Creek Exit in Redding, but the incident was far from over. One of the suspects ran on foot into a nearby cul-de-sac and hid under a deck before he was caught. The four suspects apprehended included the driver, 23 year old Billie Patterson, 24 year old Raymond Thomas, 31 yer old Benjamin Barnett and 21 year old Jennifer Barrett.
Police did an extensive search of the pursuit route, the car and the surrounding areas where the suspects were taken into custody, but no firearm has been found.
All four suspects were arrested were booked into Shasta County Jail.
