SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies are conducting police activity in downtown Santa Monica.

Deputy Sara Rodriguez said Saturday that a special weapons team had been deployed to help arrest a suspect who's barricaded inside a building.

Witnesses say a helicopter is circling low and law enforcement can be heard ordering someone to surrender.

The police activity has shut down roads in the immediate vicinity of Ocean Park and Lincoln boulevards.

The Santa Monica Police Department referred questions to the sheriff's department.

No further information was immediately available.
