Police: Marysville woman escapes attempted rapist, suspect arrested

A 23-year-old Marysville woman managed to escape from a man who allegedly hit her over the head with a rock and tried to rape her Wednesday night.

Marysville Police say Oscar James Henry Jr., of Yuba City, is being held in the Yuba County Jail and facing charges of attempted rape, assault with a deadly weapon, and robbery.

The incident began Wednesday night when police were called to a possible assault at the Meadow Wood Apartments at 1210 East 22nd Street around 10:40 p.m. When officers arrived they found a woman with a bad cut on her forehead.

The woman told police that a man she didn't know tried to place her in choke hold and remove her pants.

The woman fought back, but the assailant, later identified as James, grabbed a rock and hit her over the head with it, then shoved her face into the ground. She continued to fight back and was eventually able to escape James' grasp and run to safety. James took off with her phone.

While hunting for the suspect, officers found James 20 minutes later at an apartment complex across the street. While searching James, police found the stolen phone in his pocket and a witnesses positively identified him as the suspect.

The woman was taken to Rideout Hospital for treatment.
