A Redding transient was arrested late Thursday night after he allegedly stole alcohol and ice cream from Safeway, and then tried to tase a security guard.

Redding police say that 18-year-old Michael Schjoth went into the Safeway on Pine Street around 11:40 p.m. and tied to leave with ice cream and alcohol without paying. As he was leaving, a security guard tried to stop him, but Schjoth tried to tase her several times.

Schjoth ran from the scene and was found by police a short time later, and allegedly violently resisted arrest. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail on robbery and resisting arrest charges.

The security guard was not injured in the incident.
