Police: Man in custody for felony evading, possession of a firearm

A man is in custody after a dangerous high speed chase in Oroville late Friday night.

Michael Stathem, 21, and an unidentified female passenger were spotted by a Butte County Sheriff's deputy driving recklessly. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop when Stathem fled in the pick-up truck, according to officers on scene. Deputies chased Stathem's truck with speeds exceeding 100 mph.

The pursuit ended when Stathem crashed his vehicle into a residence at the 3400 block of Oro Bangor Highway. The suspect and the passenger both fled on foot and were detained a short time later.

Stathem is facing an array of charges including reckless driving, felony evading arrest, armed in the commission of a felony, armed while possessing methamphetamine, obstruction of justice and carrying a Loaded Firearm while in public. He is being held on $82,000 bail at the Butte County Jail.
