A Dunsmuir man is in custody facing attempted murder charges after he fired a weapon at another man Friday night.
Shasta County Sheriffs detained Gregory Neal Murray, 48, after he allegedly shot at his uncle, Douglas Murray, 68, with a .22-caliber rifle. Investigators said the bullet nearly hit Douglas Murray, missing his head by approximately 8 inches.
Sheriffs said the suspect admitted to smoking methamphetamines earlier that day. Douglas Murray said the suspect had been calling him names, threatening, slapping and choking him throughout the night.
The suspect was detained and transported to the Shasta County Jail and booked on charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm, false imprisonment and elder abuse.
