SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Police have arrested a man in a brutal attack against a homeless man.

San Francisco police arrested 35-year-old Arthur Lee Jones of Fairfield, California on suspicion of attempted murder, said Officer Carlos Manfredi.

The attack was caught on an outdoor surveillance camera.

The video shows the victim sitting outside a bar in San Francisco's Tenderloin district when a man walks by and suddenly takes a hard swing at the homeless man's head with a metal rod.

Manfredi said the victim received about 50 stitches to his head and lost a "significant amount of blood" at the scene. Police have not released his name or age.

His condition was not immediately available Monday.

Police say Jones was arrested on the same corner where the brutal attack took place.

Manfredi described the victim as well liked by people in the neighborhood.
