Police are on the lookout for the driver who led them on a chase through Chico early this morning. Officers tried to pull over a car for wreckless driving on East Avenue near Tom Polk around 3 a.m. The driver failed to stop and took off heading north on Highway 99, and that's when the pursuit began.

Sgt. James Fryar says, "The registered owner of the vehicle came back to a subject we're familiar with. Over the past 7 days the husband of that individual had been involved in 2 separate pursuits where there were firearms discovered at the time of his arrest.

Officers tried using a spike strip to slow the driver down, but were unsuccessful. They eventually found the car at the owner's home in the Greenwood Estates area off Burnap Avenue. A gun was found in the vehicle, but the driver got away. Sgt. Fryar says they are still trying to determine whether it was the same man driving the vehicle this morning that they'd chased previously. He also says the man had no prior criminal history.
