CERES, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say police in Central California shot and killed a man at a small apartment complex after he ran from police and reached for something in his waistband.
The name and age of the man who was shot and killed was not released Wednesday.
Police were on foot patrol Tuesday night in the complex because of prior illegal drug activity when they encountered a man.
For unknown reasons, the man ran away from officers, who gave chase.
When the man refused to stop and reached into his waistband, the two officers fired their guns, striking him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police and investigators from the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office are investigating the incident.
The two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard practice when officers are involved in a shooting.
