Red Bluff police say they arrested a hallucinating man after he fired gunshots at people who weren't there and walked through a neighborhood carrying an AR-15 and 9mm pistol.

Police received several calls Thursday afternoon about a man walking down Lincoln Street with an AR-15. Officers responded to the area and found 24-year-old Red Bluff resident Michael Mason hiding behind a car.

Mason told officers he was carrying the two guns for protection, and had actually shot one of two intruders inside his home moments earlier. He gave officers permission to search his house and they found three bullet holes, but no evidence of intruders or a struggle.

The investigation led officers to believe Mason was suffering from drug induced hallucinations. He was arrested for discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, possession of a loaded firearm in public and for being under the influence of a controlled substance and then booked into the Tehama County Jail.
