OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - The driver of a truck that took a wrong turn and got stranded on the tracks, causing a California train crash, has been arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
Oxnard Assistant Police Chief Jason Benitez said at an afternoon news conference that the 54-year-old man from Yuma, Arizona, has been taken into custody.
Benitez says the driver - Jose Alejandro Sanchez Ramirez - abandoned the commercial truck and was found about 1 ½ miles away in apparent distress.
Benitez says the truck drove for a short time on the tracks and was facing the train head-on when the crash occurred.
