A man and a juvenile are in custody after they tried to car jack a woman Friday evening in Redding.

The victim, Heather Mauldin, said the two individuals approached her while she waited in her vehicle to pick up a to-go order from Mary’s Pizza Shack near the 1100 block of Shasta Street in Redding. They asked to use Mauldin’s phone to call for a ride from a friend. She told the suspects she would call a cab for them.

The suspects then tried to pull the victim from her vehicle. She resisted and the suspects forcibly took the cell phone from Maudlin and fled the scene on foot.

Through additional witness reports, responding officers located the suspects, Terrell Sims, 18, of Redding and an unidentified 16-year-old male from Redding, in the parking lot of Déjà Vu restaurant near California Street in Redding. Maudlin identified the suspects as the individuals who robbed her.

Sims was booked into the Shasta County Jail for attempted carjacking, robbery, and conspiracy to commit a crime. The juvenile was booked into Shasta County Juvenile Hall on the same charges.
