Police: Crips Gang Members and Associates Arrested in Chico

UPDATE: Chico Police have confirmed that those arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of assault and robbery were either members or associates of the infamous and violent Crips gang.

Gang experts say the Crips are one of the largest and most violent associations of street gangs in the United States, with an estimated 30,000 to 35,000 members.

Chico Police early Saturday arrested 15 suspected gang members after they allegedly assaulted and robbed two people in the downtown area.

Police say a group matching the victims' description was located near the bike paths behind Nettleton Stadium and questioned just after 5 a.m. this morning about an attack at 2nd and Main streets two hours earlier.

After some tried to run away, police eventually corraled 13 adults and two juveniles. Some were from Chico and some lived in Oroville. Police also found some of the belonging with with some of the suspects. Witnesses also identifed all 15 as being involved in the alleged strong-armed robbery, police say.

The names of those arrested and charged with robbery are:

Laeyla Ealy, Shayla Ealy, Dante Turner, Jeremiah Jones, Jose Cervantes, Demetrius Jackson, Catrina Schoen, Alyssa Ortiz, Deshawn Dean, Zachariah Robinson, Ariana Johnson. A male and female juvenile were also arrested.

Based upon an investigation initiated upon the reinstatement of the Chico P.D. Gang Unit a subset of the Criminal Street Gang “Crips” was identified. All of the subjects arrested in this incident were either members or associates of this criminal street gang. Gang enhancements will be sought against all involved.
