Law enforcement officials in Shasta County are on the lookout for a driver accused of stealing a pickup and then leading police on a high speed chase in Anderson Friday morning.

Anderson police and Shasta County deputies spotted a stolen pickup as it drove through the intersection of Highway 273 and Ox Yoke Road around 5 a.m.

Officers tried to pull over the Chevy pickup, but the driver continued on Highway 273 at high speeds, driving through somebody’s front yard.

The driver lost control of the pickup while turning onto West Street, slamming into a fence near the Independent Educational Programs School. Despite crashing, the driver was able to get out and run away.

The California Highway Patrol, Redding K9 units, and sheriff’s deputies extensively searched the area, but were unable to locate the driver.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Redding Police Department.
