A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday evening in Redding.
Police said Belen Conde Berry, 45, was riding her bicycle eastbound on the right shoulder of State Route 44 when a 1973 BWM drifted off the roadway, according to a California Highway Patrol accident report. Berry was unable to get out of the way and was struck and ejected from the bicycle where she sustained fatal injuries.
Further investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle, a juvenile whose name has not been released, fell asleep for approximately 2-3 seconds and veered off the road, hitting the victim and eventually colliding with a metal pole. The juvenile driver sustained minor injuries from the accident.
The juvenile driver was treated at the scene and released pending further investigation.
