SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Police have arrested a San Jose man suspected of fatally stabbing his father then transporting and abandoning the body over the New Year's holiday.

The San Jose Mercury News reports Friday that police announced they arrested 30-year-old Maxim Zhukov on Thursday evening.

The arrest comes after investigators earlier this week secured a $1 million murder warrant for Maxim Zhukov in the killing of his father, 54-year-old Evgeniy Zhukov.

Suspicion fell on Maxim Zhukov after a relative reported the father missing New Year's Day from the home both men shared. The body was later found in a car in Richmond, California with at least one stab wound.

A motive for the killing remains unclear. Before the victim was reported missing, there were no obvious signs of commotion or distress coming from the house, the newspaper reported.
