Chico Police say a 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing a man three times on a Chico street following a fight.

Chico police responded early Saturday morning to the area of West Sixth and Chestnut streets after receiving reports of a stabbing. Officers found a victim on scene and detained a group of seven people.

Sgt. Rob Merrifield says seven people were detained after officers responded to reports of a stabbing early Sunday. A victim was found at the scene with serious injuries.

Merrifield says of the seven, a 16-year-old was identified as the suspect and taken into custody. His name was not released.

Investigators say the incident started with a verbal altercation, and then a fight broke out.

The male victim, who was not identified, was chased by the juvenile and stabbed three times in his back and right side.

The victim has been released from the hospital.

The juvenile was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and District Attorney Mike Ramsey will conduct an investigation to determine if additional charges should be filed.
