High, gusty winds in Plumas and Shasta Counties have caused extensive damage and knocked out power to thousands and now Pacific Gas and Electric officials say it could be Sunday before service is restored.
About 8,000 PG&E customers are without power in Plumas County and around 5,000 customers are without power in the Intermountain area of eastern Shasta County. The strong winds began impacting the mountain communities on Friday morning, causing the outages.
PG&E says 60 poles and dozens of spans of power lines need to be repaired and crews are having access issues due to fallen trees and rocks on roads.
The company has called in an additional 100 workers to help restore service, but says customers in the impacted areas should be prepared to be without power until Saturday or as late as Sunday.
