A Plumas County man suspected of murdering a woman was arrested in Glenn County Monday after CHP officers found his car broken down on Interstate 5.
On Monday night the Plumas County Sheriff's Office issued a statewide alert at 9:45 p.m., asking authorities to be on the lookout for 44-year-old William Leo Altes, who was wanted on suspicion of murder.
CHP officers in Glenn County located Altes on the side of I-5, next to a broken down vehicle just after midnight Tuesday. Altes told officers his vehicle had broken down and a friend was coming to pick him up.
Less than an hour later the CHP officers realized the man they had just spoken with was the suspect wanted out of Plumas County.
The Glenn County Sheriff's Office was notifed of the situation and tracked down Altes at a rest stop near Artois, just south of where CHP officers originally contacted the suspect. After a short foot pursuit he was taken into custody.
At 3:45 a.m. Altes was transferred over to Plumas County sheriff's deputies. He was returned to Plumas County and booked into jail on suspicion of murder.
