Dreams that began on the basketball court at Pleasant Valley High School have come true.
In 1985, the girls squad won an AA state championship.
The students repping PV High are hoping this season is their turn once again, and they're on the right path.
"It's been a great start to the year," says Nicole Flint.
According to MaxPreps, The Vikings are ranked number one in the state in Div-II.
"Just knowing the fact that we're number one is a great achievement for not only our team but for the school and our community," says Serena Tuitele.
PV has played two tournaments, winning them both. A perfect 6-0 record with two victories coming against Div-I teams.
There's a lot to like about this year's tea: Size up front, leadership at the point guard position and a deep bench.
"We have a great group of kids who are putting the team before themselves," says Tyler Newton.
Right now, it's all about the plays, drills, and camaraderie that's gotten this team to this point.
"The key to this team is team chemistry for sure," says Kayla Joyce.
"We've just bonded and I think we have a great road ahead of us," says Sharon Thompson.
Everyone knows though, being number one makes you a target. But this group of girls has confidence in each other.
"Now it's just a matter of keeping us there," says Flint.
Confidence that when the buzzer sounds on the year, the city of Chico will remember the 2015/16 squad, much like they do the 1985 squad.
"Hopefully if we work hard enough, we'll be fortunate enough to have a chance at it," says Newton.
Pleasant Valley looks to keep it going this weekend at the Lady Eagle Invitational at Del Oro High School.
