The warm weather from today will be replaced by cloudy weather tomorrow and rain after that. Look for the wet weather to stick around into next week!
It was a warm Wednesday across the North State, with Valley highs well into the 60's today. Today's pure sunshine will give way to cloudy skies by tomorrow, with rain near the Oregon border and as far south as Redding. The rest of us will have to wait until Friday for the rain to move in.
This will be a "Pineapple Express" or "Atmospheric River", which means this will be a long, large plume of moisture originating from near Hawaii. Warm and wet! Snow levels will start between 6000' and 7000'. The Sacramento Valley may see a bit of a rain shadow effect from the Coast Range, but we should still pick up 1/2" to 1" of rain. The mountains will get absolutely soaked... mainly by rain!
As the plume sinks southward into central California by the weekend, cooler air will filter in. That will lower snow levels to near 3500'... but there won't be much moisture left by then, just scattered showers. The cool air may trigger an afternoon thunderstorm in the Valley, but that looks like a small chance.
A weak storm may bring a few more showers to us by the middle of next week.
