Pacific Gas and Electric Company will begin work next week to install a new natural gas line along The Esplanade between Independence Circle and West Shasta Avenue in Chico.
Work will continue through mid-June while crews install more than 1,100 feet of new 8-inch plastic gas line that will connect to two existing gas lines.
“The gas line upgrade that we will be making over the next month and a half will increase the capacity as well as improve the safety and reliability of the natural gas system for our customers in the north Chico,” said Erik Kurtz, gas distribution superintendent for PG&E’s North Valley and Sierra divisions.
Crews will generally work 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Thursday, although work may occur on some Fridays. For worker safety, portions of the southbound slow lane of The Esplanade will be closed during work hours. Motorists should allow for an extra few minutes during commute times.
All lanes will be open during non-work hours.
