Petty theft on the rise in Chico neighborhood

With petty theft on the rise in a Chico neighborhood, security companies are warning people to be aware of their surroundings. They're crimes of opportunity. Security companies warn that leaving purses or electronics in your car make it all too easy for people to take items right from under your nose.

David Robb is a resident at The Meadows Mobile Home Park. He had been using a motorized bicycle for almost a decade. His nearly debilitating diseases including arthritis have stopped him from being able to operate a car. Over the weekend he fell victim to petty theft. David's bike valued at close to $1,000 was taken from his front steps making his daily errands on a pedal bike an excruciating task.

Over this past week, thefts have been on the rise at The Meadows. Managers say they run random nightly patrols to monitor the area. They're doing what they can to increase security.

Roger Hahn of Elite Universal Security says crimes of opportunity are all too common in his industry. He says it's important to be aware of your surrounding and people in the area.

If your property has been stolen, you can visit the Chico PD Citizen's Online Reporting System to report it.
