A dog in Peru was miraculously pulled from the rushing waters of the severely flooded Rimac River in Lima Monday afternoon.

A television crew caught the little pooch stranded on a rocky island in the middle of a river next to a highway.

A policeman from Peru's national police force made the risky trip to save the pup.

He tried to make his way towards the dog before he was dragged underwater by the strong current.

Another resident then used a tire to float towards the dog,.

He tied a rope around the dog, who was then pulled to the river's edge by rescue workers.

Onlookers helplessly watched as the dog was tossed about and carried down the river, with the rope tightly wrapped around him.

The dog finally reached the river's edge where a rescue worker pulled it from peril.

The dog received medical attention and was comforted by residents who stood by to watch the rescue.
