Officials have identified a person of interest in the murder of a Chico teen found dead near Orland on the Fourth of July.

While investigating the case, authorities recovered a shotgun believed to be the murder weapon and identified Alfredo Rodriguez Ruvalcaba, 53, as a person of interest in the murder investigation of 16-year-old Melissa Esquivel-Flores.

Esquivel-Flores was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head near County Road D last weekend. Ruvalcaba, of Artois, was found Sunday in a ditch near County Road 28 and County Road C suffering from a medical condition. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and will then be booked into the Glenn County Jail on a warrant out of Butte County.

Ruvalcaba is not related to Esuivel-Flores, but detectives say he is a close family friend.
