Alfredo Rodriguez Ruvalcaba was arraigned in Butte County Thursday on charges related to the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl found murdered on the Fourth of July.
Ruvalcaba has been named a person of interest in the death of Melissa Esquivel-Flores, but no charges have been filed.
Ruvalcaba did not enter a plea Thursday and court proceedings were continued until August 20. Bail has been set at $2 million, half of which is for the molestation charge, the other for failing to appear back in 2013.
Ruvalcaba was told by the judge if he were to make bail he is required to stay away from the family of Esquivel-Flores, however his attorney said bail will not be posted.
Ruvalcaba was originally arrested on the molestation charge January 31, 2013. He posted a $1 million bond and fled to Mexico. Efforts to have Ruvalcaba, who is a U.S. citizen, extradited were unsuccessful.
He was not heard from until again he was found injured in a ditch July 5, just a few blocks from where police found Esquivel-Flores' body a day earlier.
