Just after 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, a pedestrian was crossing the Skyway in lower Paradise just across from the Paradise Town Hall when he was struck by a vehicle traveling approximately 35 mph.

The pedestrian, which law enforcement officers estimated to be between 17-20 years old, was crossing the Skyway as cars in the right hand lane stopped to let the pedestrian pass. A vehicle traveling in the left hand lane did not see the pedestrian and struck him. The pedestrian reportedly smashed into the windshield and was thrown approximately 100 ft.

The pedestrian, who did not have any form of identification on him, was rushed to Enloe Hospital by ambulance with major injuries. There is no news as to his current condition. The driver was not arrested, and neither alcohol nor speed was indicated as a factor in the accident, according to law enforcement officials on scene.

Currently northbound lanes at the scene of the accident on the Skyway are blocked off, but traffic is being diverted through Annie’s Country Café. We will post updates on this story and will bring you the latest on Action News at 5 and 6:30 p.m.
