Pedestrian struck by train in Redding

A man was seriously injured in Redding Wednesday morning when he was struck by a train near Milo Avenue.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Milo Avenue and Railroad Avenue arpund 9:40 a.m., and fire officials say a man in his 30's was transported to Mercy Medical Center with serious injuries.

Train traffic was stopped for about an hour.

Further investigation will be conducted by Union Pacific Railroad officials, but local authorities say the accident happened in an area where new safety fencing had recently been built.
