A pedestrian was transported to Mercy Medical Center with major injuries Monday after he was struck by a car on Eastside Road.

Just before 7 a.m. Delbert Arthur Palmer, 55, a transient, was struck by a Mazda 3 as it was traveling southbound on Eastside Road.

According to the Redding Police Department, Palmer was sleeping in front of a business on Eastside Road when an employee asked him to move. Palmer reportedly left the location and walked across Eastside Road with no regard for traffic.

Police say speed, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash. Palmer is currently in stable condition at Mercy Medical Center.

Eastside Road was closed for more than two hours following the collision while an investigation was conducted. Anyone that may have additional information is asked to contact the Redding Police Traffic Unity at (530) 225-4200.
