A pedestrian walking along Highway 273 early Tuesday morning was struck and killed, according to the Anderson Police Department.
Officers were called to northbound Highway 273 at the Anderson Creek Bridge just south of South Street around 4:45 a.m.
Police say the victim, Monte Evans, 52, was wearing dark clothing while walking in traffic on Highway 273. The driver told officers they never saw the pedestrian. Medics pronounced the pedestrian dead on the scene.
Additionally, Evan's family says he recently had bad eyesight due to a prior brain surgery. Investigators suspect this may have been a factor in the crash.
An investigation into the incident determined the driver was operating legally and safely.
Northbound Highway 273 was closed until about 7 a.m.
