The Shasta County Coroner’s office has identified the pedestrian killed last night in Redding as 66-year-old Jon Kaiser.

Kaiser was struck by a tractor trailer at Highway 273 just south of Wyndham Lane just before 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Kaiser was found lying unconscious on the west edge of the roadway on the Southbound side of Highway 273.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Mark Haden, told police he was driving southbound in the area when he observed Kaiser in the middle of traffic and was unable to avoid hitting him.

Southbound traffic was closed on Hwy 273 for approximately an hour and a half during the investigation.

Police say that Kaiser may have been under the influence of alcohol when he was struck.
