The Paradise Police Department is seeking volunteers to help deal with a staffing shortage. There are currently 30 volunteers in police service, but department officials say they could use at least 10 more to assist officers. VIPS not only serve as eyes and ears on the streets, they also do house checks, help with DUI check points and assist with community events.
VIPS coordinator Charlie Rollo says, “Literally, without the volunteers this department could not run. We depend on them so much and they do a little bit of everything.”
Last year, the VIPS contributed more than 7,900 hours of service. They are currently taking sign-ups until March 17th. The VIPS academy will start on March 24th.
