James Parker is devastated to hear the outcome of a lengthy battle between his mother's Paradise Motel and the City. The Paradise Town Council voted 5 to 0 to declare the Skyway Carousel Motel a public nuisance and authorize the filing of a lawsuit, including a receivership of the property. The motel received over two hundred housing violations by the town building inspector. Some of which include carbon monoxide poisoning, electrocution, and exposure to disease. During the meeting, council members and witnesses explained that the owners of the property have not taken any action to fix the violations. The owner, 94-year old Rose Kallunki and her sons asked the council for more time. Town Attorneys claimed the motel has been unkempt for nearly 10 years. However Parker says the town has had their eyes set on the property for six years. Many of the owners of neighboring properties expressed their beliefs that it was time for the place to be shut down. Kallunki has owned the motel for 13 years and her son says it's where she wants to stay.
