Paradise pushing to switch Om Wraith Field to turf surface

One of the greatest local prep football home-field advantages might be going out the window.

On Tuesday, Paradise Unified School District trustees voted 5-0 in favor of converting the high school's Om Wraith Field from muddy grounds to artificial turf.

It's now up to the state to see if the project will get approved. If it does, construction will most likely begin in April.

Paradise head football coach Rick Prinz is believed to be in favor of the change even though he owns a 43-7 home record since 2008.

But the muddy surface has been problematic for some of his players and several other Paradise High athletes who stressed the importance of renovating the surface at the district meeting on Tuesday.

Soccer teams, PE classes, and youth football teams also use Om Wraith Field.

Financial details on how much the project will cost have not been made public by the district.

We'll pass along more details as they become available.
