Paradise murder suspect Alex McClintock was taken in to custody Thursday morning at a San Jose motel, the Paradise Police Department reported.

A detective close to the investigation said after working several new leads about the possible whereabouts of 27-year-old Alex McClintock, he was detained by the California Department of Corrective Fugitive Apprehension Team working with the San Jose Police Department.

The parolee is suspected in the February 6 murder of a Paradise man.

Officials from the Paradise were on their way this morning to retrieve the suspect to face charges of murder and parole violation.

McClintock is wanted on suspicion of shooting and killing 20-year-old Ty Barrera nine days ago at a home along the Skyway. A handgun was used in the murder, however law enforcement has not recovered the murder weapon.

The motive for the shooting is still not yet known. McClintock, who has been to prison before, was considered armed and dangerous. Although McClintock is known to have gang affiliations, police said they do not believe the killing was gang-oriented.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Paradise Police.
