A Paradise man who strangled two of his girlfriend's cats to death has been sentenced to six months in jail and three years of formal probation.
In April, Justin Neese pleaded no contest to five counts of animal cruelty after he strangled five of his girlfriend's cats, two of them died. The other three cats were found bleeding from the mouth.
Investigators say Neese admitted to strangling at least one of the cats because "it was old and had no soul."
In addition to the 180 days in jail and three years of formal probation, Neese will be required to perform 100 hours of community service and is not allowed to own or take care of any cats.
Investigators say Neese suffers from mental health issues.
