The public hearing on the proposed water rate hike for the town of Paradise has been postponed.

Friday night, the Paradise Irrigation District's board room was so crowded that the meeting could not come to completion.

The new plan for rate hikes puts all residential customers on an allotment of 13 water units for a monthly rate of $54, with tiered penalties for using more than the allotment.

The increase in rates, under Proposition 218, are scheduled to begin in March unless more than 50 percent of customers vote in its opposition.

Paradise Irrigation District officials say the date for the next hearing is still unknown as they search for a venue large enough to accommodate the crowd.
